A speculative museum to prevent male violence against women

concept

Together with Stormi we imagined a future where patriarcal culture no longer exists. In this future it's possible to visit the MUPA, Museum of Patriarchy, which collects relics and testimonies from the past, so as not to forget those behaviors that fueled male violence against women.

The project

In the future, patriarchy no longer exists.

The MUPA – Museum of Patriarchy – preserves relics and testimonies from the past to showcase the behaviors, habits, gestures, and narratives that fueled male violence against women. A world premiere preview opened to visitors from November 20th to 25th, 2025, in Rome. Then the exhibition traveled to Milan and opened its doors for two week at Fabbrica del Vapore, from March 6th to 20th , 2026.

But, in the real world, patriarchy does not yet belong to the past: public, domestic, professional, sporting, digital, and relational spaces are permeated by the seeds of gender-based violence. These are often perceived as harmless, yet they form the very foundation of the pyramid of violence.

This is why, as highlighted by ActionAid Italia's research, it is essential to invest in multi-dimensional primary prevention aimed at people of all ages, an approach that is still almost non-existent in Italy, to effectively combat gender-based violence.

What if patriarchy really disappeared tomorrow?

Together, we can make male violence against women a memory of the past.

MUPA is a project designed by Stormie Studio and realized in partnership with Hello Tomorrow Agency for ActionAid Italy.

How we did it

We came up with the concept, envisioning a future where patriarchy is extinct, forcing visitors to view a "normal" behaviors through the shocked eyes of future generations.
We premiered in Rome in November 2025. This project transformed daily acts of prejudice into museum exhibits, sparking an immediate national conversation on the root causes of violence.
Following the Rome success, we brought the MUPA to Milan in March 2026, and expanded exhibits on digital and sports stereotypes.
